Miguel Angel Cotto's title defense

The Top Rank WBA Super Welterweight Champion Miguel Angel Cotto (35 -2) is now set for his first title defense of his new crown.  Top Rank promoter Bob Arum confirms Cotto's title bout against the Nicaraguan challenger and former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1) on March 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Nevada USA.  The Puerto Rican boxer won the WBA Super Welterweight(Light Middleweight) Championship against the undefeated Israeli fighter Yuri Foreman after successfully landing his signature left hook to the body winning the title via TKO in their fight last June 2010.

Subsequent to losing the WBO Welterweight title against Manny Pacquiao in November of 2009, Miguel Cotto went up to fight in the Light Middleweight Division and rewardingly took home the title as his fourth overall championship in 3 different division in his boxing career.  Possessing outstanding boxing record, losing only twice against Antonio Margarito in 2008 and Manny Pacquiao in 2009, he is now matched to another great fighter Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga who is surely raring to go and take that fresh championship belt around his waist.

Will Cotto be able to defend his title-it's really hard to tell. With Cotto's fighting prowess, armed with his deadly left hook and tremendous foot work, it's quite uncertain if the much older Mayorga stands a chance but the latter will definitely not make this fight easy either.
